Lost a toe to a Croc

This morning, there was a lot of talk on the local TV news, and on the radio news about escalator safety concerns. Escalators have put up with public safety concerns as far back as I can remember, but this particular concern is also pointing the wary finger at Crocs, and the knockoff brands of them, which are really popular with kids. The issue this time is that some kids will stand on the escalator belt until the guard piece (the “teeth”) is met, and it stops them. Well, with these shoes, the soles are very spongy and light, so kids who do this have the horrible enlightenment of getting the toes of their shoes pulled by tractor feed into the gaping maw of the mall escalator.

It’s much better to watch the kids closely, and also to make the game at the end of the escalator ride to jump over the painted area where the teeth are, rather than use it to push against, moving them backward.

Anyway…
